Off-Road Comparison: Can the Gladiator Colorado Rubicon Dethrone ZR2?

Description:
We put the 2019 Chevrolet Colorado Bison ZR2 and 2020 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon through their paces at Badlands Off Road Park in Attica, Ind., To see how they …
Comments:

Maxxis – No talk about how the Gladiator is solid axle and the Chev is IFS? How can you compare suspensions when you’re aged to fridge and oven? Food goes in both but they are built for different reasons.

Sorry you are not going to be TFL. I have no idea why 180k + people subscribe to this channel.

Rhino Willy’s – 2very different vehicles with two very different specialties. Both are very nice. Coming from a Jeep owner Id instead for my money buy in Tacoma. Just my opinion not just on these trucks just my preference.

Scarhart53 – All these years and Jeep has never been a decent engine in the Wrangler, and it’s even less capable in the super-heavy Gladiator.

Steven claggett – I just love gladiator with lift and 37’s, amazing truck, every day and whistle. I would love to be 68K is a bit more than I want to spend. My ZR2 has every mod I want should go anyplace the Gladiator can go and it’s 22k Less.

Viewchico – If you hold down the traction control button down for 10sec it will cancel all limited power on the ZR-2

Mike veselka – Affordability, especially the non-bison version. Engine choices list goes on and on. EASILY THE COLORADO, period!!!!

Kevinteinert1999 – This format will not let me post pictures of my friends ZR2 frame bent in half because I pulled at 2500 lbs off road trailer and not fast. The frame bent at holes cut in the frame for the multimatic performance shock system.!

Jeepheat55 – Jeeps are lying to 4×4 slow not desert race. And its solid axle not an independent suspension grocery getter

Anyone anything – I have the 2019 V6 ZR2. Transmission is shit, should have got the diesel. Had no idea the transmission would be like this. GM giving a fuck about us

R gibbs – Colorado haaaa ya ok

Jr naked mex – Climbing big hills and get it. 95% of the people 95% of the time a bit of a snow, hill to the cabin or deer stand is about it. jeep w / top off doors off your best time going for a drive

Smackdowner – ZR2 is a fucking beast and makes the Gladiator it’s bitch

Lunamaria – The moon is buying a gladiator to make the most of the world. The Colorado is a rock crawler … The Colorado is meant for high speed trail and desert dune blazing .. They are set up for different roles of them..

Gunalizer – Why a comparison against the Bison. What about the regular 4×4 ZR2? The bison is aev.

Forrest’s auto reviews – The gladiator is a bit one, I’d choose it all day long. The longer wheel in the Gladiator makes it easier than the Bison and the diesel has gotten better fuel economy than advertised! It’s incredibly impressive. Hoping to have my version of the Monday morning. Would you like to join us?!

Daniel Brumbelow – There are no comparison, zr2 frames are bending!

Trevor newsham – Your field was not the Bison. Zr2 has a better approach and is lighter … should have had Zr2 vs. Gladiator…..

C. Ripley – Being in the market for a midsized truck and a view of both of these I have come to the conclusion that this is, in a sense, an apples to oranges comparison. The JL Ruby emphasizes rock crawling capabilities and the classic "Jeep Feel" over The ZR2 provides more comfort and efficiency for the cost of some loss on off-road performance (IFS). If offered one of these two things it would be the Jeep all but considering the ZR2 can be had at 2/3 the price of the JL I think that makes the decision for me. 20K can go a long way to mods, a trailer, and adventures.

James Mastoianni – The ZR2 is not a bison with the v6 is the best off roader in class hands down, this is coming from a jeep owner

Poppy neese – Ford guy here, Jeep pulling, but gotta say the Bison is an awesome lil truck, it’s not going to be the most dependent on the two. Jeep with a pickup again! As for prices, taking a full size truck.

Joshua jeremy – Considering the Colorados are folding in half I would say the Gladiator wins

Melvin mitchell – Why is this seat belt trying to kill him lol

Harawanagangsta – Are these two vehicles really in the same class or market of competition to one another?

Dustin mittel – Maybe yall can do the gladiator again when the diesel comes out

Joshua mangus – Jeep Jeep Solid front axle nuff said

David – Get to the point. You guys sound like pronounced scare to just say it like it is.

John parsons – I’ve liked some of the geese videos in this past one’s kinda bullcrap. ZR2 gasser should’ve been used. The difference in performance is not small. Maybe then they would have pointed it out to get you off the road at any speeds. I have a 17 ZR2 extended cab. It’s a sport truck on the tarmac and a high speed fire road pounder too. It would have been a jeep in everything but crawling. An honest comparison would not be fair .

C b – "Dethrone" the Chevy? If it were ever king? Gimme has break!

Jason molihan – I’m not a fan of how they break up the ZR2.

Eman WacaGator – I bought the 2018 ZR2 gas over the diesel. Even though the Duramax has 369 torque the 3.6 is so much more peppy in my humble opinion. In case ppl think considering a Jeep hater I also own a 2018 Jeep Jk. Best of both worlds. Today I will keep my ZR2 over the Gladiator … Thanks for the video..

Ian Terry Roy MacLeod – No contest, like asking who will get the mountain trail first on average. The casualy fit guy, or the guy who is 100lb overwight…

Trevor newsham – Both offroad very well. Gladiator has the edge on rock and ZR2 has the edge on baja. Tie breaker is on pavement. ZR2 is far superior to a daily driver.

Notmyname – All you really need to know that they are filmed while driving in the ZR2.

Mount murray – Who decided the Colorado was sitting on the throne hahaha put my supercharged Tacoma against any Colorado any day

Hudson z roamer – They are both amazing vehicles. You can not lose your way.

Droyal1975 – Waaaaah, the extra long and goofy looking jeep out performed the Colorado. Boohoo.
Drive what you like, and quit whining about perceived apology.

I momma’s pimp – These guys are like a generic TFL

Blooneyful – That jeep looks ridiculous.

Okie rider – Get rid of the annoying and horny ass intro music. Thanks! Btw, the Gladiator JT needs a bigger engine to haul all that extra weight. Maybe the 4.8L Hemi or the 3.0L V6 Eco Diesel will be better for overlanding in the JT I will not be buying FCA offers more powertrain options.

Kurt gellert – Major down side … have fun cleaning the interior of the Gladiator!

Grodd70 – Well I am not planning on racing in the Baja 1000 so I do not need a truck to fly and jump. Now "off roading" at slow speeds for recreation, camping in the back country … Ill take the Rubicon Gladiator .. Dana 44 axls and crawl ratio … and added to the fact that Rubicons hold their value really well.

Allen heaps – It drives me nuts that the ZR2 comes with a V6 and all these reviews V6. Wish it was more apples to apples.

Mark – Hi Philip Jooste, First, Colorado has a rating of 5 on the ASEAN NCAP which has the same testing and parameters as Euro NCAP.

Jeep is a 1.

Second, your statement is not in the least lessen how dangerous is the jeep is.

If they were equal in rating then you would be advised to go with one
Off-road comparison: can the gladiator rubicon dethrone the colorado zr2?

Third, you might want to do a little research before implying false conclusions in writing. It makes you less than credible to state it nicely.

Soul surf – The truth is the Rubicon and ZR2 dethrone the Tacoma as everyone knows nothing compared to a Taco…..

Daniel rey – Tacoma is the best

Honda man – So awkward that they drive in circles while discussing pros and cons.

Leo dakine – 3.6 V6 ZR2 for an apple to apple comparison.

Savage stash – Only 1 off road mode !!!! Oh you mean like everybody else drives

B-reezy nothing – I own a 2018 zr2 Duramax and plan to swap it out for a diesel gladiator if they put it on the market. The reason this review is that they were biased and they did not know how to shut down the nanny in the Duramax if they could I have put over 50k miles on my zr2 with a lot off-road miles. It’s phenomenal. It rattles and the interior is cheap, but it does everything extremely well. The do you have a second time. The after comes for a Jeep is unreal, the platform is unbeatable if you plan to build. and well designed for 90% of the population, get the ZR2.

George s – These two hero’s are slamming the Colorado yet arguing the video while driving it. Oh wait I know, it’s a way better vehicle. Surprised the FF could be done behind the wheel

Kalbs89 – I think Chrysler is killing the "Wrangler" by making these Jeeps longer and longer. I know they still make a 2-door Wrangler but after the TJ I feel the heritage has disappeared. The Jeep used to be a short wheelbase crawler or weekend wilderness Traveler. I like both and still from own Trucks and Wranglers.

Turbojunki – UGLY as F– with the roof off. # 129326;.

Chuck cribbs – Open top Jeep and ruggedness wins it for me. Gladiator would be more fun.

NoobToober85 – I’ll wait for the 2020 tacoma.

Paulofps10 – Zr2 always

Sean eastman – Tacoma test was not equal, try putting dirt on it, are you guys really.

Joe blow – I will go ahead and say it because they were so afraid. The ZR2 all day, everyday.

Proulx guy – Both are overrated garbage

Trevorj79 – You believe to buy a Jeep for the mileage or the power. You buy it because it has solid axles and doors and roof come off. Until someone steps up and checks those boxes, a Jeep is a Jeep

Dahveed284 – Between these 2, I’d pick the Jeep. I’m seldom a high speed off-road runner (where the Chevy had an advantage). And the ground clearance of the Chevy is going to be expensive.

Mark – Remove biased review. No mention of:
The 2019 Jeep Wrangler which the Gladiator is based on has a frontal crash rating of 1. (This is inexcusable..
There is a difference especially if you buy the standard ZR2. Then you have a pile of money to buy a lot of mods.

The standard ZR2 has a better approach angle than the ZR2 bison.
The Gladiator comes with 33 "tires vs. ZR2 with 31". The ZR2 is even more capable if you put a leveling kit and 33’s.
They said "The Gladiator is the best riding of all the Jeeps" so it’s better than the worst rider.
This is the only review I’ve seen that puts the diesel for crawling.

It’s important to have some knowledge and experience that are capable of driving credibly…

Donald minard – I lasted 3:12, indicating it 2 A-Holes.

Nick saputo – In the manual

Roads traveled – Check out my ZR2 on 35 "BFF KM3s.It will be crawl with gladiators on the same tires all day long.Https: //youtu.be/1alns5LwoYo

Bill kerr – Yep sponsored by JEEP lol hell no zr2 all the way jeep trail funny if you’re in a clown paraid oh ya jeep all the way

Orion6699 – IMO the whole reason to get the jeep is so you can take the top and doors off. Sure it costs more, but if that’s your thing.

Bigbenstubbs – The two trucks are almost in different classes in that look. A four-door gas V6 ZR2 will cost nearly $ 20k less at a dealership. There’s no question the ZR2 is a better buy. You could get a Raptor for a little more than the Rubicon Gladiator…..

Don mohring – So many excuses for the Jeep Zr2 wins in my opinion

Don mohring – Gladiator is over priced and overrated

Don mohring – The v6 does not cut power at all

Amateur jose – Jeep owner? That’s why gladiator is better. It was a great comparison, but.

Shawn johnson – Colorado uses a stock frame

MURR DOG – FORD = forgot OBVIOUS RESEARCH / DEVELOPMENT..recall cronies..Detroit

Bob quattrini – Both are overpriced junk … My 1999 Jeep Cherokee Xj will be outlasting this junk with ease…

John bob – A Subaru outback could hang with these on those trails. Just what it is.

John bob – A Subaru outback could hang with these on those trails. Just what it is.

Bigfrogs4x4 – Why did you lighten the weight of the Jeep? At least half of people will leave them on their $ 50k plus truck clean.

GEN2-X – All that and no winner!
Gzzzzz.
How many would leave one stock?
Not me.
4.5 "lift / 37" min / full skid flat tires / etc.
Hellellet in the gladiator!

Jaden horne – I find it so stupid that the Gladiator is bacicaly the pickup truck version of the Wrangler, yet it is much more expensive.

Joseph Quintiliani – No way I would trade my ZR2 diesel for that overpriced Gladiator. The thing is too long and just looks weird to me. I have no issues keeping up my life in the power, you’re doing something wrong.

EGGINFOOLS – So the ZR2 was better but the doors come off the Jeep. Got it!

RUGGED DUDE – IT DEPENDS ON WHAT TYPE OF OFF ROADING YOU DO. GOING CAMPING, USING IT TO WORK, HUNTING YOU IN OFF ROAD. BOTH ARE FINE NOW REAL ROCK CRAWLING THE JEEP ONLY BECAUSE OF THE FULL LOCKING PACKAGE SOLID AXCEL FRONT. SOLID FRONT AXCEL IS JUST STRONGER AN BETTER FOR OFF ROADING. WHY YOU THINK THERES AT RUBICON GRAND CHEROKEE ??? NO FRONT SOLID FRONT AXCEL. ON THE OTHER LOOK AT VEDIO’S AROUND WORLD PEOPLE JUST GOING HOME, WORK, ANY GETTING SUPPLIES TO REMOTE PLATES THEY GET IT IN MY POINT IS AT 4 4 4 TR TR TR TR TR TR TR TR TR TR TR TR TR TR TR TR TR TR TR TR TR MOST NEVER WILL EVER SEE OFF ROADING WAY TO NICE IN SIDE TO GET MUDDY, DIRTY, AN TO MANY ELECTRONIC TO GO WRONG. I SEE ALOT OF RUBICONS PEOPLE WITH MONEY DRIVING THEM AN NEVER SEE OFF ROAD. THE FE LL FOR THE HYPE AN NICE OPIONS THEY COMES WITH THE OFF ROAD PART. JEEP NEED TO S ALE IN RUBICCON WITH THE BARE MINIMUMS AN IT WILL SALE.

Yesterday – That 2.8 Duramax is a different ballgame. To properly test both Zr2.

JT: 3.6L V6 285 HP and 260lb torque-4,600 lbs.
ZR2: 3.6L V6 308 hp and 275 torque-4,000 lbs.

I love some Jeeps, but that Zr2 is a mean machine. Looks better and better.

Gladiator will need a lift and some 37’s to sway me. That Zr2 you can slap on some 33’s and call it a day.

I need some real towing capability so I’ll have to stick with my ’99 XJ and ’81 CJ for the Jeep trail fun.

GMC AT2 anyone? My Uncle is one of the best things I’ve been to you…

Jondrell13 – Bitch Tits and Dweller Basement really have zero clue?

Jondrell13 – So let me get this straight out of the Colorado beat the Toyota TuRD? LMFAO

Jake_mf_lowe – Hold down traction control button 8 seconds …. diesel or not. The gladiator is a beast but it is a brick and underpowered to be shaped like a brick. The jeeps feel at home offroad but the zr2 feels at home everywhere.

Ryan rkj – The ZR2 (not Bison) is much more affordable than the Rubicon Gladiator. I think that should be emphasized a bit more.

Billgotskill b – Why take the door and turn it off when it’s dusty?

casTingcall07 – Only thing the production on the assembly line the Gladiator has the removal of doors and top!

Otherwise, the gladiator needs a minimum of 37’s to run where I ride.

Chevy only has to design the midgate and it’s king avalanche!

Because the hall truck will result in better parts approach departure etc.

Vincent vaughan – Afterwards I would take the gladiator to a car wash to clean inside and out!

Dan howard – I’m testing an off-road in Indiana LOL OLOLOLOLOLLOLDesert test on pea gravel LOLOLOLOL, FAIL

NET – Can’t keep the dmax in the power band? It makes peak torque at 2k RPMs. This is my first Chevy and I love my baby duramax.

Magna Carta Sam Adam’s – The ZR2 has smaller tires and the bison is the different bumper which cuts down on the angle of view. The Jeep is way more expensive the money you can change the ZR2 give it some more power and it will be the Jeep in the dust Hell I Got mine for 36K brand new midnight edition I can get you off the road.

J angle – ZR2 Any day that’s not a real Jeep coming from a Jeep guy seriously dropped the ball Fiat / Chrysler all the wait and money seriously the best you could do

Patrick rich – It would be interesting to the roof.

Jack hook – I got the zr2 v6 with bds lift and 35 tires love it.i own a jeep wrangler rubicon with lift 40 tires 456 gears and a hemi engine in it that’s my baby.i want to modify my zr2 but better half says i need to pay It off first.i thinking v8 in it later.

Luis molina – So you are telling me I was wasted 20 mins watching this so you can say…

Qball2000able – Sounds like video sponsored by jeep

Norm t – Tacoma not need apply…

Bossking – You want a high center on a Gladiator goofy pickup lol

Bossking – Hey guys, why do we compare with the 3.6 gas ZR2 which is more responsive than the ZR2 diesel. Thanks

Bossking – Gladiator is a stretched out goofy looking wannabe pickup. ZR2 alllll day buddy … Great looking, great proportions and better off-road angles than the wannabe pickup.

Bryan – Everyone knows the Jeep is the king of offroad, however ,,, i like the fact that you guys were completely fair to both trucks. I would rather have the 3.6 liter in the Colorado instead of the diesel, but I understand some of these videos Games. Nice review guys !

Terrence jones – The No Bison ZR2 actually has a better approach because the bumper is cut more.

ZR2 me for all day everyday.

Filipinofantasy – I just wanna jump a truck again. I miss my 94 hilux # 128546;

Don198769 – To the video seems like making a lot of excuses to allow the Chevy to win!

Michael Matthews – I have a Wrangler Rubicon. If I were to get a truck it would be the ZR2. The gladiator is why to long.

Hooligan times – I loved my ZR2 but it was not a Jeep. Now I love my Gladiator Rubicon!

Dorelse – Factoring in the price … ZR2 (non-Bison) can be had in the Duramax for $ 41k … the Ruby Gladiator is gonna be $ 50k + … the Ruby Gladiator is worth $ 9k (or more .. way More) than the ZR2? Not in my book … what was the Launch Edition? $ 61k? $ 20k difference … not a chance. (And … I own 3 Jeeps!)

Al pangelinan – It is the same as the traditional Jeep Wrangler (Convertible) Options, etc.) and the practice of a truck. 🙂

Mountain hobbler – Break over angle is a thing Jeep is to long.

Jeeping down under – They are both great off-road, but absolutely love how you can take the roof and the Jeep, make it a win for me

Maximiliano luera – Going for a guy and i hate that colorado because i want one so bad. it’s no business being that cool

Miguel ircontar – Discussed a wrangler over a gladiator

Yiyangcheng – Waiting for someone to say "neither, my Taco or 4 Runner TRD is gonna smoke those. It lol longer than those two Sarcastic moment

Yt icewolf – Gladiator for me. Something about the looks. The feeling of the wind with the doors off and the top off is too great

Bong lim – ZR2 Bison (V6) is great

James m – The the

The slow lane reviews – Oh I thought Indiana was all farmland.
